Domestic Abuse Housing Alliance (DAHA)

DAHA accreditation is a scheme open to housing associations, Local Authority housing teams, and homelessness providers across the UK to help them improve their response to domestic abuse. 

It is the benchmark for how housing providers should respond to domestic abuse in the UK and is recognised in the government's Ending Violence against Women and Girls Strategy: 2016 to 2020. 

The accreditation works on the following principles: 

• Housing is the primary barrier for women attempting to leave abusive situations and domestic abuse is one of the highest causes of homelessness amongst women.  

• Housing providers are ideally placed to spot and respond to domestic abuse as a first point of contact. 

The accreditation process consists of working towards a set of 8 priority standards with the support of one of our Development Managers. These priority areas are: 

1. Policies & Procedures 

2. Case Management 

3. Risk Management 

4. Inclusivity & Accessibility 

5. Perpetrator Management 

6. Partnership Working 

7. Training 

8. Publicity & Awareness 

Support from our Development Managers is made possible by generous funding from MHCLG, Comic Relief and London Councils; giving them the freedom to: 

• Help housing providers get started with accreditation; 

• Provide them with ongoing support throughout the process; 

• Provide free workshops and webinars on our 8 priority standards. See here for upcoming events.

DAHA accreditation costs a minimum of £3000 and takes on average 12-18 months to complete depending on the organisation’s existing response.
